“In Her Own Words”: Bringing the Reality of ME/CFS Into the Open

February 4, 2026

Our founder shared a personal op-ed in BizWomen titled “In Her Own Words,” where she wrote candidly about her lived experience with ME/CFS and the economic and human impact of the disease. In a space where chronic illness is too often misunderstood or minimized, Elizabeth used her voice to spotlight the reality of life with ME/CFS, not just as a medical condition but as an economic and social burden that affects individuals, families, and workplaces in profound ways.

In the piece, Elizabeth reflects on her own journey from diagnosis to advocacy and explains why she started #NotJustFatigue. She underscores that the condition is frequently dismissed, leaving patients without the recognition, research progress, or systemic support they deserve. She aims to shift the narrative and invite business and community leaders to better understand both the personal and broader societal costs of inaction.

This op-ed continues #NotJustFatigue’s commitment to raising ME/CFS’s profile in influential forums and connecting lived experience with policy and action. We’re grateful to BizWomen for a platform that helped bring this message into the mainstream conversation and to every reader who engages with the realities behind the disease that far too many live with every day.
